Tamatar Ki Chutney
  • 500 gms Ripe large tomatoes (coarsely chopped)
  • 100 gms Dates (chopped)
  • 3/4 cup Sugar or as per taste.
  • Salt to taste.
  • 1 large Green Chili.
  • 1½ tbsp Oil.
For Seasoning:
  • 2 Bay leaves.
  • ½ tsp Mustard seeds.
  • ½ tsp Fenugreek seeds .
  • ½ tsp Onion seeds (kalonji)
  • ½ tsp Fennal seeds (badi saunf)
  • ½ tsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
  • Heat oil in a saucepan & add the seasoning ingredients.
  • When they sizzle, add tomatoes & green chili.
  • Cover and let it cook for a while till tomatoes are mushy. When done, add dates and salt.
  • Remove the cover & cook for some more time. Keep stirring in between.
  • Make sure that tomatoes do not stick to the bottom of the pan.
  • Once the tomatoes are cooked completely add sugar and cook till all the sugar melts.
  • Simmer for a while and turn off the flame. Remove the green chili and pour the chutney in the serving dish.
  • Let it cool completely. Tasty chutney is ready.
  • All seasoning ingredients should be roasted & powdered.
