Subject: Jayesh S. Shah

Jayesh Shantilal Shah

Jayesh Shah - Age 38 - son of late Shantilal Champshi Shah and Malti S. Shah; husband of Jyothi J. Shah; father of Nikita, Sonia, and Kevin. Originally from Kutch town of Vadala.
As many of you know, Jayesh Shah (living in Edgewater, NJ, previously living in Houston area, TX) worked at eSpeed, a division of Cantor & Fitzgerald located in WTC - Tower 1. Since the disaster occurred on Sept. 11, 2001, Jayesh has remained on the missing person's list. The company's offices were on and above the 101st floor, and Jayesh worked on the 103rd floor. There has been no news received about Jayesh or any of the other 730 employees from Cantor & Fitzgerald who were physically on-site. Not a single survivor has been recovered from this group of Cantor employees. With the help of family and friends, every possible avenue to find Jayesh has been pursued and re-pursued endlessly in the hope of finding him and bringing him home.

Based on all known facts thus far, the reality has hit home after 9+ days into this disaster that from this group of 700+CF employees, not a single survivor has been found anywhere nor a single lead found from any source. While the small ray of hope will remain lit in our hearts until we have official information, it may be that official notification may never come and that Jayesh's precious soul has found another home in a divine place.

We have personally visited hospitals, emergency wards, and the burn center looking for Jayesh, and finding out what floors the WTC (World Trade Center) patients are from. We have conducted 2 interviews on TV pleading to contact anyone who might have seen Jay or talked to anyone on or near Jayesh's floors after the airstrike. We have had family interviewed briefly on the streets of New York a couple of times. We have submitted articles to the newspapers. Each of these things have allowed us to show Jayesh's picture to a wider audience and have allowed us to feel comfortable. We expanded our search efforts as wide and as frequent as possible. Every person involved in this effort operated in a highly dedicated manner to accomplish this search mission in a structured and orderly path.

In our search for Jayesh, we have found so many angels in the world. We have had the assistance from so many people-too many to name and recognize in this note. We will be recognizing and thanking all of those at a later date after our near term issues are addressed-and there are many of these issues.

As a family we have discussed what may have happened, and we have based this on communications between WTC victims to their families before the building crumbled. This is what we now believe.

We strongly believe that Jayesh was at or near his desk on the 103rd floor at about the time the first plane struck that morning. We know that the plane crashed into the 90-something floors. We believe that Jayesh was with a group of people; he was not alone. After the plane crash the employees were informed of an explosion, and they are believed to have tried to come down. They were unsuccessful in going down because the crash site was below them and the thick black smoke prevented them from descending. Then they proceeded to go up towards the top of the building for air and hopes for a helicopter rescue. Many were overcome and died of smoke inhalation. Finally we know that the tower collapsed. The WTC site is still burning and smoking, and the word "horrific" doesn't even explain it. At this time the media is still referring to the search effort as a "Rescue Mission." This may be based on legal or other issue; but we fully expect that status to change to a "Recovery Mission" soon. We don't know how that will change the status of recovery of bodies. We are managing our expectation of what, if anything, we will receive, and what we will do after that fact.

As we watch over our five children (Jayesh's three and Niloy's two) we feel Jayesh's presence in them. They are all strong, and understand the situation and the minimal likelihood of his return. They are a top priority and we will continue to move forward in the best direction for them.

For those that wanted to send flowers to our homes, we request that in lieu of flowers you donate towards an education fund in Jayesh's name which will be used to educate someone in India that would otherwise not have the opportunity. We feel that this is a small act that Jayesh would have loved to make possible. If you want to contribute to that cause, please contact Naren Gosar at ngosar@yahoo.com or at address: Naren & Neelam Gosar 3223 Boxelder Dr. Houston, TX 77082.

We will now learn how we will move forward without Jayesh.
