People said that there should be concessions and appeals were made. Therefore the Central Government has decided to give rebates for five years in excise and sales taxes." He added that the duties on intermediate items would also be removed. |
| l | The Prime Minister said despite the fact that the Keshubhai Patel Government had done its best to provide immediate relief and rehabilitate the quake-hit people, much still needed to be done. |

| l | Referring to the Sardar Sarovar Project`, the life-line of the state, Vajpayee said that all efforts would be made to complete it so that water could be supplied to the Kutch area through a pipeline. |

He suggested that the state government fix up a time limit for completion of the rehabilitation package. While announcing that the centre would do everything within its reach to see the early completion of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada project, Vajpayee said the promise regarding laying of another railway line from Bhuj to Mumbai would also be fulfilled. |
