on watershed management
* A Watershed is an approach to harvest and preservation of water to
be followed by organized activities to conceptualise, plan and implement
economic activities based on land productivity.
* This will help create sustainable income generation opportunities
with matching social interventions.
- Social infrastucture covering total
community development.
* Medical services – hospitals & mobile vans.
* Primary and secondary schools with modern amenities, facilities for
teachers and quarters.
* Community centers – these will provide opportunities for cultural
and social interface and help preserve the rich heritage of Kutch.
* Special attention will have to be provided to the personal, social
and vocational needs of the large number of differently abled persons
– in the aftermath of earthquake.
- Creation of jobs through vocational
activities
* Economic activities will need to consider local skills and available
renewable resources.
* As a first response we may consider setting up of dedicated fund for
procurement of local produce – including hand-embroidered material,
tie & dye work, leather work, dairy produce and so on.
* This approach, it is believed, will reorient local energies
in a purposeful direction.
* Our background in manpower training and development will help.
* Successful implementation of watersheds will open up opportunities
for additional income generation projects.
