Post 26th January earthquake response

 

  • Abhiyan volunteers got into action within minutes of disaster having occurred.
  • Abhiyan co-ordination with relief workers, donor agencies, district administration and corresponding centers in other cities began on day one.
  • Two main depots for mobilization and distribution of relief supplies setup in Bhujodi and Samakhiali followed by one at the Government Fertilizer depot.
  • These depots are manned by Abhiyan volunteers and systems for record keeping and inventory management are in place.
  • 16 sub centers by 5th Feb. followed by 8 additional sub centers till date.
  • NGO desk setup at the District Collectorate and Bhuj airport.
  • Ham radio units operational at three locations including cellphone connectivity
  • Wireless connections through ocean going ships setup
  • Even with sketchy but revealing data within hours of earthquake, a meeting of prominent citizens, doctors and volunteers organized in Mumbai
  • Mumbai network enabled visit by 106 qualified doctors on 27th January supported by medical provisions, paramedical staff, trustees and social workers
  • Taluka wise survey of Kutch district completed and findings being submitted to Government today.
